Bulk Paint

Intermediate

Bulk Paint lets you replace every block of one material with a completely different material across your entire build in a single click. Where the regular Paint tool requires you to drag over each surface you want to change, Bulk Paint operates globally — it finds every matching block no matter where it is and swaps it all at once. It's the fastest way to retheme a finished build.

Opening Bulk Paint

Tap Bulk Paint in the Quick Build section of the sidebar. The modal opens and immediately scans your build, producing a list of every material currently in use. Liquid and nature blocks are excluded — only paintable shapes appear in the list.

Phase 1 — The Material List

The first screen shows every material in your build as a scrollable list of rows, sorted by block count so your most-used materials appear at the top. Each row shows:

Why the same material can appear more than once

Bulk Paint groups entries by material + shape rather than material alone. If you've used Wooden Wall as a flat cube block and also as steps, those two uses appear as separate rows — because they can only be repainted with materials valid for their respective shapes. Replacing "Wooden Wall (steps)" would only offer materials from the Steps category, while "Wooden Wall (cube)" would offer Walls, Flooring, Misc, Prints, and Terrain.

Example: A house built with Brick Wall cubes and a Brick Wall–trimmed staircase will show two "Brick Wall" rows — one labelled "cube" and one labelled "steps". You can replace them independently or one after the other.

Phase 2 — Choosing a Replacement

Tap any row to enter the replacement picker. The top of the screen shows a summary strip confirming which material you're replacing and how many blocks will be affected. Tap ← Back in the strip at any time to return to the full material list without making any change.

Below the summary, a tabbed material grid appears — filtered to the categories that are valid for the selected shape. It works exactly like the House Generator material picker:

If no compatible materials exist for a shape (which is very unlikely but can happen with unusual shape types), the grid will say so and no replacement is possible for that entry.

Confirming the Replacement

Tap Replace All. Bulk Paint immediately:

  1. Snapshots the current build state onto the undo stack.
  2. Iterates every block in the build that matches the selected material and shape.
  3. Applies the replacement material to each matching block, respecting the same shape-compatibility rules as the regular Paint tool — so footprint-sensitive shapes (arch bridges, carved rocks, fancy-roofed slopes, partition pillars) are handled safely.
  4. Closes the modal and re-renders the viewport.

The whole operation is instant regardless of how many blocks are affected.

Undoing a Bulk Paint

Every Bulk Paint action is undoable. Press Ctrl+Z (or Cmd+Z on Mac) immediately after to restore all blocks to their original material. Because the entire replacement is pushed as a single undo step, one undo reverses everything — you don't need to undo once per block.

How Bulk Paint Differs From Regular Paint

Paint toolBulk Paint
ScopeOnly the cells you drag over.Every matching block in the entire build.
Source materialWhatever shape is under your cursor.A specific material + shape combination you choose from the list.
SpeedManual — you control exactly what gets painted.Instant — one tap replaces everything at once.
UndoOne undo per stroke. One undo for the entire operation.
Tip: Use regular Paint when you want fine control over which blocks change — for example, repainting just the outside of a wall while leaving the inside alone. Use Bulk Paint when you want to change every instance of a material at once — for example, swapping all your placeholder Brick Walls to Stone Brick Wall once you're happy with the layout.
