House Generator

Intermediate

The House Generator builds a complete, livable structure in one tap — four walls, a pitched or flat roof, a floor, windows on every wall, and a centred front door. You pick the dimensions and a material for each component; the generator handles the placement. It's the fastest way to get a fully formed building on the grid before you start customising.

Opening the Wizard

Tap Generate House in the Quick Build section of the sidebar. A six-step wizard opens as a modal overlay. You can move forward and backward through steps freely using the Next and Back buttons, or tap any dot at the top to jump to that step. Nothing is placed until you tap Build House on the final step.

Step 1 — House Size

Set the outer footprint and wall height of your house, all measured in grid blocks:

FieldWhat it controlsMinimumMaximum
Width (X)How wide the house is, left to right.440
Depth (Z)How deep the house is, front to back.440
Wall Height (Y)How many block rows tall the walls are, not counting the roof.320

The roof is added on top of the wall height you choose, so the total structure height will be taller than the Wall Height figure. A sloped roof adds roughly half the width in additional height at its peak; a flat roof adds one block.

Tip: Use the + and − buttons next to each field for precise one-block adjustments. You can also type directly into the number box — it will clamp to the allowed range automatically.

Step 2 — Wall Material

Choose the material for all four exterior walls. The picker shows every material in the Walls, Flooring, Misc, Prints, and Terrain categories — the same set of materials you'd use with the cube (Block / Wall) shape in Build mode.

Tap a swatch to select it. The material name appears below the grid so you can confirm what you've chosen. Double-tap an eligible swatch to open the colour tint picker and add a colour wash to the material before generating.

Step 3 — Roof Material

Choose the roofing material. The picker is filtered to the Roofing category only, so every option here is guaranteed to work with the slope shape. Below the material grid, choose your roof style:

StyleWhat it looks like
Sloped (gabled)A classic pitched A-frame roof with a central ridge running front to back. The gable ends (left and right walls above the wall height) are filled in with wall-material cubes.
FlatA solid cap of slope blocks laid flat across the top of the walls. Minimal and modern — good for rooftop terraces or multi-storey builds where you'll add more floors on top.
Tip: Some roofing materials have specific roof-style requirements — Wavy Roof only supports the Fancy roof style in regular build mode, but the House Generator uses standard sloped/flat logic for all materials, so any roofing material works with either style here.

Step 4 — Floor Material

Choose the material for the floor layer — the single block-thick base inside the house at Y = 0. The picker offers the same range as the wall picker: Walls, Flooring, Misc, Prints, and Terrain categories. You're not restricted to flooring-labelled materials, so you can use a stone terrain material for a cave floor or a print material for a patterned interior.

Step 5 — Window Style

Choose the window material from the Windows category. Windows are placed automatically at a fixed interval along all four walls, one block above the floor. The number of windows on each wall scales with the wall's length. The generator uses a standard window shape — sash-window and ornate-window materials are also supported.

Tip: If your wall material already looks like it has windows (a print or stylised wall), try using a Glass Window at its natural (untinted) colour to keep things subtle, or skip customising windows entirely and repaint them later with the Paint tool.

Step 6 — Door Style

Choose the door material from the Doors category. One door is placed centred on the front wall (the wall facing the Z+ direction) at ground level. Double-tap an eligible swatch to tint the door before generating.

When you're happy with all your choices, tap Build House. The generator runs immediately.

Where the House Is Placed

The house is always placed starting at grid coordinate (0, 0, 0) — the corner of the grid. Make sure you have enough room: a house with Width 10 and Depth 10 occupies columns 0–9 in X and 0–9 in Z, so a 10×anything grid is the minimum. If the house overlaps the grid boundary, columns outside the grid are silently skipped.

Warning: Generating a house overwrites any blocks already occupying the same cells. The action is added to the undo stack, so you can press Ctrl+Z (or Cmd+Z on Mac) to reverse it — but if your grid is busy, save to My Builds first.

After Generating

Once the house is placed, treat it like any other build:

Tip: Generate a house with a large Width and Depth, then use Layer Reveal to work floor by floor — the generator's output makes a great starting scaffold for a multi-room interior.
