Pillars & Iron Pipes
IntermediateThe Pillar / Post shape is one of the most varied in Buildopia. It holds a broad range of structural and decorative vertical elements — from simple wooden posts to ornate tiered columns — plus an entirely separate subcategory of modular iron pipe segments for industrial and mechanical builds. This guide covers everything inside it.
Selecting Pillar / Post
Find Pillar / Post in the Shape section of the sidebar. Once selected, the material palette below switches to show two subcategory tabs: Pillars and Iron Pipes. The Pillars tab is active by default.
The Pillars Subcategory
The Pillars tab holds the full range of structural post materials. Key ones to know:
Structural posts
- Iron Beam — a wide, flat horizontal bar. Use Rotate to orient it along the axis you need.
- Iron Column — a taller, narrower vertical bar. Good for industrial structural work.
- Iron Pillar — a slim cylindrical shaft on a circular base disc. See the seamless stacking section below.
- Simple Pillar Quarter — a quarter-cylinder panel, useful for curved wall corners and column casings.
Tiered pillar systems
Six pillar materials come in three pieces — Upper, Middle, and Lower — designed to be stacked in order:
- Wooden Pillar (Upper / Middle / Lower)
- Extravagant Pillar (Upper / Middle / Lower)
- Round Pillar (Upper / Middle / Lower)
- Stone Pillar (Upper / Middle / Lower)
- Stylish Brick Pillar (Upper / Middle / Lower)
- Twisty Pillar (Upper / Middle / Lower) — shares Round Pillar's profile with a twisted surface texture. DLC 1 addition.
The workflow for any tiered system: place Lower at the base, as many Middle blocks as needed to fill the intended height, then Upper at the top. Each tier uses a different profile so the assembled column reads as a coherent architectural element — a simple repeated block wouldn't achieve the same effect.
Log variants
- Sideways Log — a full-block cylinder lying horizontally (a felled log), with real bark texture on the curved surface. Use Rotate to orient the log along the axis you want.
- Upright Log — a full-block cylinder standing vertically (a standing log), with the same bark texture.
Support pieces
- Roof Support — a diagonal knee-brace beam for supporting angled overhangs or for decorative timber-frame detail.
- Wooden Beam — a horizontal plank at the base of the block (full width, 10% height, 20% depth, centred on Z). Supports colour tinting. DLC 1 addition.
- Wooden Support — a slim vertical post (20% × 20% footprint) anchored in the back-left corner and running the full block height. Supports colour tinting. DLC 1 addition.
- Iron Support — shares Wooden Support's geometry in an iron material. Supports colour tinting. DLC 1 addition.
- Wooden Beam and Wooden Support are crafted from 2 Lumber (yield 10). Iron Support from 2 Iron Ingot (yield 10).
Iron Pillar — Seamless Stacking
Iron Pillar is a slim cylindrical shaft sitting on a circular base disc. When you stack a second Iron Pillar directly on top of an existing one, Buildopia automatically hides the base disc of the upper pillar so the two shafts merge into one unbroken pole — rather than looking like two separate segments with a disc floating between them.
This works across as many layers as you stack. The base disc only appears on the bottommost Iron Pillar in each vertical run. It's fully automatic — you don't need to toggle anything.
The Iron Pipes Subcategory
Switch to the Iron Pipes tab in the material palette to find 11 pipe segment variants. Every segment is a pre-modelled iron pipe mesh sized to fit flush within a standard block cell, so placing compatible segments next to each other produces a continuous, seamless pipe run with no visible joins at the seams.
Straight segments

Curved segments

Rotate any curved segment up to four times to cover every direction a bend could face.
T-junction segments

Cross-junction segments

| Iron Pipe (Horizontal Cross) | Connects in all four cardinal directions. The hub for complex pipe networks. |
Cross segments don't need rotation — all four exits are already present in every orientation.
Planning a Pipe Run
A good workflow for iron pipe builds:
- Sketch the route in your head (or on paper) before placing — know where the runs go, where they change direction, and where branches split off.
- Place straight segments along the main runs first.
- Add curve segments wherever a run changes direction, rotating each to face the right way before placing.
- Drop in T-junctions and crosses wherever runs branch.
- Step back and check joins — if two segments don't appear to connect cleanly, check that their exit directions actually match up.
Because every segment occupies a standard block footprint, you can always swap one segment out for another without disturbing its neighbours.
