Changelog
What's new and changed in Buildopia. Have a suggestion? Let us know or drop it in the Discord.
- Habitat Planner — a new tool to help you build Pokémon-friendly spaces. Select up to 4 Pokémon and the planner shows you how well they match based on shared favourites, ideal habitats, and skills. Filter the full Pokédex by habitat, favourite, or flavour to find compatible companions, then compare them side by side — seeing what they have in common and where they differ. Find it under Habitat Planner in the site menu.
- Item Catalogue — a new dedicated page listing all items in Pokémon Pokopia, grouped by category. Browse Materials, Food, Furniture, Outdoor, Nature, Buildings, Blocks, Kits, Key Items, Lost Relics, Fossils, and more — each category shows a count and an icon so you can find what you're looking for at a glance. Find it under Item Catalogue in the site menu.
- Grid underlay matches build dimensions — the grid lines shown beneath your build now match its exact Width (X) and Length (Z) dimensions instead of always being square. A 45×75 build will now show a 45×75 grid rather than a 75×75 one.
- New keyboard shortcuts — ten new actions can now be triggered from the keyboard and rebound in Settings → Keybindings: Screenshot (S), Clear (Delete), Presentation Mode (F), Secondary Viewport (V), Layer Reveal up (↑) and Layer Reveal down (↓), Layer Select Module up (Page Up) and Layer Select Module down (Page Down — Manual layer mode only), History (H), Resource List (R), Material List (M), and Reset Camera (Home). A Rotate Left button has also been added to the toolbar, sitting alongside the existing Rotate button; its default keybinding is L. All of the above are fully rebindable — including special keys such as Delete, arrow keys, Page Up/Down, Home, and F1–F12 — via Settings → Keybindings.
- Multi-Select — the Cursor tool now has two sub-modes: Single (the existing behaviour, unchanged) and Multi, selectable via a new toggle row at the top of the Cursor section. Single remains the default. In Multi mode, the four existing action buttons (Move, Rotate, Copy, Paste) are hidden — actions on a region are handled by a popup instead. To select a region: tap the first corner of your selection on the grid, then tap the opposite corner. A popup then asks how many blocks high the selection should be, with a stepper for exact height and an Up / Down direction toggle (Up by default) to choose whether the selection extends above or below the anchor layer. As you adjust height and direction, a live ghost box — semi-transparent blue, matching Buildopia's existing ghost style — updates in the 3D viewport so you can see exactly what you're about to capture before confirming. Tapping Confirm Selection opens an action popup showing the region dimensions and block count, with four options: Copy (copies the region to a multi-clipboard, then waits for a tap on the destination anchor to paste it), Move (removes the blocks immediately and waits for a destination tap to place them), Erase (deletes all blocks in the region — fully undoable), and Paste (re-pastes the last copied or moved region at a new anchor). All operations are fully undoable. Switching away from the Cursor tool, or switching back to Single mode, cancels any in-progress selection. Multi-Select is hidden in Basic tool mode, consistent with the rest of the Cursor tool.
- Help & Documentation fully updated — every section of the Help & Documentation page has been reviewed against the current build and updated or added where needed. Changes by section:
- Top bar — added entries for the History (clock icon) button, Presentation Mode button, and My Builds top bar shortcut; updated the Additional Viewport entry to reflect multiple simultaneous panels; updated Clear to document the Save to My Builds & Clear option; added Settings to the main menu item list.
- History — new section covering the History modal: clicking past entries to jump directly to a build state, clicking future entries to redo, and when the stack clears.
- Presentation Mode — new section covering the pre-launch GIF dialog, the auto-rotate, and the Save GIF / Discard exit flow.
- Materials Picker — new section for the eyedropper button: how pick mode works, what it covers (including multi-cell items and non-origin cells), and what it skips.
- Cursor — split into Single and Multi sub-sections. Multi Select is documented in full: two-tap region drawing, the floating Selection Height popup (direction, layer count, live preview), all four region actions (Copy, Move, Erase, Paste), draggable panels, and clipboard isolation from the single-block clipboard.
- Roof — expanded from 4 styles to all 9: existing Sloped, Hipped, Valley, Flat entries retained; added Dormered (Brick only), Decor (Brick / Stone / Tiled / Wavy Roof / Scale Roof), Fish (Tiled only), Awning (Scale Roof only, tintable), and Fancy (Wavy Roof only, tintable).
- Fence — added Seashell Fencing, Arched Fencing, Ornate Partition, and Netting to the shape description.
- Furniture — replaced the outdated Storage-only description with the full catalogue: single-cell items, multi-cell pieces (Sofa, tables, beds, Tall Mirror) and their footprint/placement rules, Rotate for directional pieces, and Erase/Cursor behaviour on multi-cell items.
- Material swatch — updated to reflect right-click / long-press for the colour tint picker (replacing the old double-click / double-tap description).
- Layers & Blueprint Reveal — restructured into sub-sections; added X Reveal and Z Reveal sliders (cross-section cutting, tool-locking behaviour, saved in export); added all five layer action buttons (C copy, P paste, ↑ swap up, ↓ swap down, ✕ clear layer) with individual descriptions.
- Grid Size — added a note that the per-axis cap can be raised above 100 via Settings → Advanced → Max Grid Size Override.
- Quick Build — new section with two sub-sections: Generate House (six-step wizard: size, wall material, roof material and style, floor material, door and window material, review and build) and Bulk Paint (material list phase, replacement picker phase, Replace All behaviour and undo).
- Terrain Generator — new section covering biome presets, height variation, Ocean, Caves, Floating chunks, Volcano method, and the Generate action.
- Save / Load — updated My Builds entry to cover both tabs and the search bar; updated Export to note X/Z Reveal state is included; updated Import to mention file validation; added Plan View PNG (image size options, per-export shadow toggle).
- Settings — expanded from four tabs to seven. Existing Display, Camera, Accessibility, and Keybindings tabs lightly updated for accuracy. Three new tabs documented: Advanced (Sun-Cast Shadows, Sun Angle Height, Sun Angle Direction, Max Grid Size Override, Time of Day) and Builder (Tool Preset: Basic / Advanced) and Membership (key activation and all five member perks).
- Confirmation dialogs — updated the Clear build entry to include the Save to My Builds & Clear option.
- Community Builds — added entries for Build of the Week (pinned gold-bordered card), Tags and the tag filter strip, the Search bar, the Shareable link button (🔗), and Member Flair (gold ★ badge and Username pre-fill).
- Cursor tool guide updated — the Cursor Tool written guide now covers Multi Select mode in full: the Single / Multi toggle, two-tap region drawing, the floating Selection Height panel (direction, layer count, live preview, draggable handle), all four region actions (Copy, Move, Erase, Paste), the draggable action panel, and a note on clipboard isolation from the single-block clipboard.
- Cursor tool tour updated — four new steps added to the Cursor Tool guided tour after the Copy & Paste step: Multi Select (mode switch overview), Drawing the Region (two-tap corners plus height popup), Region Actions (Copy, Move, Erase, Paste), and Draggable Panels (dot handle repositioning). The closing step's text updated to mention Multi Select alongside the single-block actions. Tour catalogue tags updated to include multi select, region, erase region, and move region.
- Basic / Advanced tool preset — on first launch, a popup asks whether you'd like to start with Basic Tools (a focused set of essentials, great for getting started quickly) or Advanced Tools (the full toolkit unlocked). Your choice is saved and the popup won't appear again on subsequent visits. You can change this at any time in Settings → Builder.
- New landing page — the Buildopia home page has been redesigned with a new layout and updated content.
- History jump — clicking any past state in the History modal now jumps directly to it, without needing to mash Undo. Clicking the immediately previous action undoes it instantly (same as the Undo button). Clicking a state further back shows an inline confirmation row — "Undo N steps to action name?" — with a Jump and Cancel button, so you can confirm the scope before committing. The state you jumped from is preserved in the Redo stack, so you can go forward again if needed. Past entries in the History modal now show a faint step-count badge (e.g. ×3) on hover to indicate how many steps back they are.
- Presentation Mode GIF export — clicking Presentation Mode now opens a pre-launch dialog explaining what to expect, with an opt-in checkbox to record a GIF loop during the presentation. When recording is opted in, up to 6 seconds of frames are captured at 12 fps while the camera rotates, then recording stops automatically — no overhead if you stay in presentation mode longer. When you exit, a dialog asks whether to Save GIF or Discard; nothing is written unless you choose to save. GIF encoding runs entirely in the browser with no external library or upload required.
- X and Z Layer Reveal — two new sliders have been added to the Layers & Blueprint Reveal section, alongside the existing reveal slider (now labelled Reveal height (Y)): Reveal width (X) and Reveal length (Z). Dragging these sliders cuts away columns and rows from the positive X and Z edges of the build, letting you slice into the scene from any direction to inspect interior layouts or cross-sections. All three sliders work independently, and each has its own +/− step buttons for single-unit precision. The reveal state is saved and restored with your build file.
- Mirror plane visuals — when Mirror X or Mirror Z symmetry is active, a semi-transparent plane now appears in the 3D viewport at the mirror axis. The Mirror X plane is shown in blue, running along the X midpoint of the grid; the Mirror Z plane is shown in orange, running along the Z midpoint. Each plane scales with the current grid size and X/Z reveal depth, so it always shows exactly where the mirror axis sits within the visible portion of your build. The planes appear and disappear instantly as you toggle mirror modes.
- Save to My Builds & Clear — the build clear confirmation dialog now includes a Save to My Builds & Clear button between the existing No and Yes options. Clicking it prompts you to name the save, stores it to My Builds, then immediately clears the build — a single action to preserve your work before starting fresh.
- Membership tab — a new Membership tab has been added to the Settings dialog. Enter your membership key to validate it and unlock member perks; the tab also shows your current membership status and lists all available perks. Keys are validated securely against the server and cached on your device for 30 days.
- Member Perks — five perks are now available to active members: Custom Accent Colours (set any Primary and Secondary colour for the app theme, beyond the four curated palettes); Settings Export / Import (back up all your settings, including sidebar layout, to a file and restore them on any device); Community Builds flair (a gold star ★ badge displayed on your community build cards, visible to all users browsing the gallery); a gold Buildopia logo in the top bar, replacing the standard icon while your membership is active; and a Username field in the Display tab — set a name that appears automatically as the author on community build submissions and is stamped onto all PNG exports as a watermark.
- Build of the Week — a highlighted build pinned to the top of the Community Builds gallery regardless of the active sort order. The current Build of the Week appears in a full-width gold-bordered card with a 🏆 banner; it still responds to tag filters and the search bar normally. Set and cleared from the admin panel — only one build can hold the title at a time, and setting a new one automatically clears the previous.
- Community Build Tags — builds in the Community Builds gallery can now be tagged. When sharing a build, select any number of tags that describe it: 🏠 House, 📐 Large, ⚙️ Technical, 🏔️ Terrain, 🛋️ Interior, 🌊 Water, 🌾 Farm, 🔲 Compact, or ⭐ Showcase. Tags appear as small badges on each card in the gallery. When browsing, use the tag filter strip below the search bar to show only builds with a particular tag, or type a tag name directly into the search bar to filter by it alongside title and author.
- Member border — the animated rainbow border shown on member-exclusive UI elements has been updated with a new style.
- Tours & Guides updated — the Community Builds tour and guide now cover shareable build links; the Top Bar & Main Menu tour and guide now cover the History modal and Presentation Mode; the Paint & Recolour tour and guide now cover the Materials Picker.
- Materials Picker — a new eyedropper-style button in the Material section, sitting in the same row as the search bar (which has been shortened to make room). Click it to activate picker mode, then click any block in the scene to instantly select its material, automatically switching to the correct material category and tab. The shape is also updated if the picked material belongs to a different shape. Press Escape or click empty space to cancel without changing anything.
- Shareable community build links — every build card in the Community Builds browser now has a share button (🔗) that copies a direct link to your clipboard. Visiting a link like
?build=42loads the build straight into the app without needing to open the modal first. - New loading screen — added a dedicated loading screen shown on startup.
- Presentation Mode — a new button in the top bar clears every piece of UI from the screen, leaving only the 3D viewport. The camera slowly auto-rotates around the centre of your build. Click or tap anywhere to exit.
- Materials Picker not working on nature items or liquids — clicking a nature item (Berry Tree, Pointy Tree, Palm Tree, Boulder, etc.) or a liquid block with the picker active would flash the selection briefly then cancel, leaving the picker without a result. Nature and liquid blocks store their type in dedicated fields (
natureType/liquidType) rather than amatId, so the picker's guard check always failed. The picker now detects these block types directly, switches to the correct shape (Nature or Liquid), and restores the full sub-type and level selection. - Materials Picker not working on multi-block items — clicking any non-origin cell of a multi-block item (doors, trees, boulders, furniture, etc.) with the picker active would silently cancel. Non-origin cells are stored as placeholder references pointing back to the owner block, so the picker found no material data and gave up. The picker now resolves these references to the owner block before reading its material.
- Community Builds like button reverting after click — tapping the like button would briefly highlight red and tick the count up, then revert both — while leaving the button in the liked state. The server returns a 409 when a like has already been recorded for that IP, which the client was treating as a failure and rolling back the optimistic UI update. A 409 is not an error; the like is already registered server-side. The client now treats 409 as a silent success and saves the liked state locally without rolling back.
- Bulk Paint search bar — added a search bar to the top of the Bulk Paint material list, matching the style of the Materials section search. Filters the list by material name, tint colour, and shape as you type; a clear button (×) appears when a query is active and Escape clears it. The search resets and focuses automatically each time the modal opens. A "no results" message appears when nothing matches.
- Materials section always visible — the Material section in the sidebar now remains visible when Liquid or Nature shapes are selected, instead of hiding entirely. The search bar and Materials Picker are always accessible regardless of shape. The Recently Used tab also now appears for Liquid and Nature shapes when there are previously used materials to show.
- History modal — a new History panel shows your full undo/redo stack at a glance. The current state is marked with a divider; past actions appear below it and undone (redoable) actions appear above, dimmed. Open it via the clock-icon button in the toolbar, by long-pressing either the Undo or Redo button, or by right-clicking either button on desktop.
- Time of Day — a new selector in Settings → Advanced that sets the ambient lighting preset for the scene. Choose from Morning (warm low-angle light), Day (neutral overhead light, the default), Evening (golden-hour tones), or Night (cool reduced-ambient light). Works independently of Sun-Cast Shadows — the preset shifts the scene's ambient and sky colours regardless of whether the shadow pass is enabled.
- History modal not opening — the modal overlay was receiving the wrong element ID when opening, so clicking the History button, long-pressing Undo/Redo, and right-clicking all had no effect. The correct overlay element is now targeted and the modal opens as expected.
- History modal appearing behind the toolbar — the overlay's stacking order was too low, causing the modal to render underneath the top toolbar. The z-index has been raised so the modal correctly appears in front of all toolbar rows.
- House Generator and Bulk Paint tour thumbnails — both tours were displaying borrowed icons from other tours (House Generator used the Terrain Generator thumbnail; Bulk Paint used the Paint & Recolouring thumbnail). Each now has its own unique icon in the tour browser.
- Secondary pages — made changes to secondary pages formatting and functionality, improving usability and appearance.
- Settings guide & tour updated — the Settings guide and tour now cover the new Time of Day setting in the Advanced tab.
- 3D engine updated to Three.js r185 — upgraded the underlying 3D rendering library to the latest release. No visible changes; this is a routine dependency update that keeps the engine current and picks up upstream bug fixes and performance improvements.
- Advanced settings tab — a new Advanced tab has been added to the Settings dialog, housing performance-affecting options separated from the main Display, Camera, and Accessibility tabs.
- Sun-Cast Shadows — toggle in Settings → Advanced that enables a directional shadow pass across the scene, casting shadows from every block to add depth and realism. Disabled by default due to performance cost.
- Sun Angle (Height) — slider in Settings → Advanced (visible when shadows are on) controlling sun elevation from 5° (long shadows) to 80° (short shadows).
- Sun Angle (Direction) — slider in Settings → Advanced (visible when shadows are on) that rotates the light source 360° around the scene so shadows can fall in any direction.
- Max Grid Size Override — three inputs in Settings → Advanced (Width, Height, Length) that raise the per-axis cap above 100 blocks, up to 1000. Takes effect immediately in the sidebar sliders.
- Plan View PNG export — new button in Save / Load that renders a true orthographic top-down image of your build. A pre-export modal lets you pick image size (16, 32, 64, or 128 px per grid cell) and toggle shadows on or off independently of the main viewport.
- Layer reveal slider repositioned — the "Reveal layers from bottom" slider now appears at the top of the Layers & Blueprint Reveal section, above the layer list, so it's immediately accessible without scrolling past all layers.
- Layer action buttons — each layer row now has five inline buttons: C (copy), P (paste), ↑ / ↓ (swap with layer above/below), and ✕ (clear). Arrows disable automatically at the top and bottom of the stack. All operations are undoable.
- Tour modal theme fix — tour tooltip modals now correctly follow the active light or dark theme. Previously the modal used hardcoded dark colours and remained dark regardless of the user's display setting.
- Tours modal fix — the Tours button in the main menu now correctly opens the tour browser. A syntax error in the tour script was preventing the modal from being wired up, so clicking Tours had no effect.
- Nature items in water — all nature items (Shrub, Flowers, Grass, Vines, Small Coral, Tall Coral, Berry Tree, Pointy Tree, Palm Tree, and Boulder) now sit inside water instead of replacing it, matching how Pillars behave. Both the water and the nature item render together in the same cell.
- My Builds search — added a search bar to the Saved Builds tab in My Builds. Filters saved builds by name as you type; a clear button appears when a query is active. The empty state message updates to reflect whether no saves exist or no saves match the current search.
- Community Builds search — added a search bar to the Community Builds browser. Filters already-loaded cards by title and author name as you type, with a clear button when active. The search bar is visible on the Browse tab and hidden on the Share tab.
- Settings guide & tour updated — the Settings guide and tour now cover the new Advanced tab, including Sun-Cast Shadows, both sun angle sliders, and Max Grid Size Override.
- Terrain Generator guide & tour updated — the Terrain Generator guide and tour now cover the Volcano generation method in full, and the Biome Preset section has been updated to reflect how material layering works differently in Volcano mode.
- Layer Reveal guide & tour updated — the Layer Reveal guide and tour now document the five layer action buttons (copy, paste, move up, move down, clear) and note the repositioned reveal slider.
- My Builds guide & tour updated — the My Builds guide and tour now cover the new search bar in the Saved Builds tab.
- Import / Export guide & tour updated — the Import / Export guide and tour now include a Plan View PNG section explaining the orthographic export, size options, and shadow toggle.
- Terrain Generator — Volcano method — now fully implemented. Generates a conical mountain with fractal noise on the slopes and a carved caldera at the summit. Material layering is altitude-aware: lower slopes use the biome's normal stack; upper slopes and summit transition to bare rock only. All other generator options work the same as in Random mode.
- Boulder water rendering — placing a Boulder on water now correctly shows water across its entire footprint, not just the cell it was placed on. Removing the Boulder also correctly restores the water underneath without leaving any ghost faces behind.
- Shadow quality on large builds — shadow maps now scale with the largest grid axis and the shadow camera frustum is fitted tightly to the grid's bounding box, fixing blocky/distorted shadows on medium and large builds.
- Shadows dropping on resume — shadows are now correctly restored after the app comes back from the background (tab switch, home button, etc.) without needing to toggle the setting manually.
- House Generator — generates a complete house in one tap from the Quick Build section in the sidebar. A six-step wizard lets you set the outer footprint and wall height, then choose a material for walls, roof, floor, windows, and a door. Tintable materials support colour tinting directly in the picker — double-tap a swatch to open the colour tint panel. Roof step includes a style toggle: Sloped produces a gabled A-frame with filled gable ends; Flat lays slope blocks horizontally for a solid roof. The finished structure is placed at grid origin and the action is fully undoable.
- Bulk Paint — replaces every block of one material across your entire build with a different material in one click, from the Quick Build section in the sidebar. The modal lists all materials currently in use, grouped by shape and sorted by block count; liquid and nature blocks are excluded. Tapping a row opens a shape-filtered replacement picker — only categories valid for that shape are shown. Tintable materials support colour tinting in the picker: single-tap selects a material and opens the tint panel if applicable; double-tap opens the tint panel directly without changing the selection. Tint swatches show a live preview — the swatch in the picker updates when you choose a tint. The replacement is applied with all the same safety guards as the regular paint tool (footprint-size checks, shape morphing for stairs and ladders, glass-window combine reset, carved-rock and pathing compatibility) and is fully undoable.
- Added a guided House Generator tour — walks through opening the six-step wizard, setting house size, choosing materials for each part, the roof style toggle, and building. Launch it from Tours in the main menu.
- Added a guided Bulk Paint tour — covers opening the modal, reading the material list (swatch, name, block count, shape), selecting a source material, choosing a replacement from the filtered picker, and confirming with Replace All. Launch it from Tours in the main menu.
- Added a written House Generator guide to the Guides page — covering the six-step wizard in full: dimensions (width, depth, wall height), per-part material pickers, colour tinting for eligible materials, the sloped vs. flat roof style toggle, grid-origin placement, and undo support.
- Added a written Bulk Paint guide to the Guides page — covering the material list (how grouping by shape works, what's excluded), the replacement picker (category tabs and shape filtering), colour tinting in the picker, the compatibility guards that prevent invalid replacements, and undo support.
- Multiple additional viewports — the Additional Viewport button now opens a new independent floating panel each time you click it, rather than toggling a single one. Up to five additional viewports can be open simultaneously; the button does nothing further once the limit is reached. Each panel has its own camera, its own preset controls (Default, Top, Side, Front), its own draggable position, and its own resizable size. Close any individual panel with its ✕ button — closing one frees up a slot for a new one.
- Updated the Viewport Camera guide to document multiple additional viewports — revised the opening and closing, moving and resizing, and camera controls sections, and updated the example use case to reflect four-way viewing.
- Updated the Top Bar & Main Menu guide to describe the button as opening a new viewport on each click rather than toggling, and clarified that the main viewport's camera presets are independent of each additional viewport's own preset controls.
- Updated the Viewport Camera guided tour (steps 6–9) to describe opening multiple viewports, moving and resizing individual panels, per-panel camera presets, and closing panels one at a time.
- Updated the main welcome tour to describe the Additional Viewport button as adding a new panel rather than toggling one.
- Added the Terrain Generator — procedurally generates terrain to fill your grid in one tap. Configure a biome preset (Field, Seashore, Alpine, Sky High, or Seafloor), height variation, optional ocean water, optional lakes and rivers, and optional experimental caves, then tap Generate. Each result is unique. Find it in the sidebar below the Resize button in the Grid Size section.
- Added a guided Terrain Generator tour — walks through every option in the panel: biome presets, height variation, ocean intensity, lakes and rivers, caves (density and size), and the generate step. Launch it from Tours in the main menu.
- Added a written Terrain Generator guide to the Guides page, covering every setting in full: biome presets and their materials, how height noise and the max-step smoothing work, ocean sea-level calculation, lake seeding and river generation, the three cave clean-up passes (surface entrances, floating chunk removal, water cascade), and grid sizing before generation.
- Updated the Grid Size tour and written guide to mention the Terrain Generator and link through to its dedicated tour and guide.
- Updated the Help & Documentation page to add the missing Settings section — covering all four tabs: Display (themes and accent palettes), Camera (sensitivity, FOV, and default view), Accessibility (Reduced Motion, High Contrast, and Colour-blind Mode), and Keybindings.
- Updated the Help & Documentation page to add the missing Recent Materials panel section, explaining how the last 8 applied materials are shown for quick access.
- Updated the Help & Documentation page to add the missing Sidebar drag-to-reorder section, explaining how to reveal a section's drag handle and save the layout.
- Updated the Help & Documentation Nature section to add the three previously missing items: Vines, Boulder, and the two coral pieces (Small Coral and Tall Coral), with individual descriptions for each.
- Updated the Help & Documentation page to document the precision step buttons (− / +) on the Grid Size, Layer Reveal, and Placement Size sliders.
- Corrected the Grid Size maximum from 75 to 100 in the Help & Documentation page.
- Updated the Placement Size stepper maximum to 75 in the Help & Documentation page.
- Updated the Liquid & Nature guided tour to add dedicated steps for Small Coral and Tall Coral, describing each piece's appearance and placement behaviour.
- Renamed the Second Viewport to Additional Viewport across all user-facing help, guide, and tour text.
- Added a written Fences guide to the Guides page — covering auto-joining posts and rails, fixed free-standing pieces, wall-mounted siding, multi-cell partitions and gates, rotation, colour tinting, and a practical workflow for laying fence runs.
- Added a written Pathing guide to the Guides page — covering all ground-cover surface materials, multi-cell structures (Arch Bridge and Floating Log), the Border edging system, rotation, and how pathing layers with liquid and blocks.
- Fixed Tours modal not opening. Two unescaped apostrophes in single-quoted strings in tour.js (
There'sandyou're/you'veinside the Terrain Generator tour steps) caused a SyntaxError at parse time, aborting the entire file beforeinitToursWindowcould run. Users with a cached copy from before 25 August were unaffected; anyone loading fresh saw the Tours menu item do nothing. Both apostrophes have been escaped and the tour.js cache-bust version string bumped to force all browsers to fetch the corrected file. - Fixed Terrain Generator — Ocean producing only a tiny puddle. The previous implementation placed a single water source at the midpoint of each active coastline edge and relied on the cascade system (radius 6) to spread it — far too small for any meaningful grid. Ocean generation now uses a BFS flood fill seeded from the entire chosen border band at a fixed sea level derived from the intensity slider (20–55% of grid height). Water is placed directly at the correct depth for every qualifying column, producing a flat, properly-sized ocean that fills the coastline edge-to-edge.
- Fixed Terrain Generator — Lakes / Rivers flooding the entire map at high intensity. At intensity 10 the generator was seeding every local terrain minimum with a lake source and calling the cascade system on each one — on a typical map this meant 20–50 simultaneous cascading sources whose spread overlapped and collectively drowned the whole surface. Lake count is now capped at 1–5 regardless of how many minima exist, scaling smoothly with the intensity slider.
- Fixed category drag-to-reorder not working on desktop. The mouse drag-and-drop listeners for the sidebar scroll container were being attached to an undeclared variable in the
wire()function, sodragover, dragleave, anddropevents were never registered — meaning desktop dragging appeared to start but produced no drop indicator and no reorder. Touch (mobile) drag was unaffected. The fix declares the scroll container correctly insidewire()so all three events attach as intended. - Fixed Display and Accessibility settings not being applied on secondary pages (Guides, Changelog, Help, Contact, Terms, Privacy, Cookies). The inline settings-boot script was already present in those pages but was missing the Accessibility branch — High Contrast, Reduced Motion, and Colour-blind Mode were never applied on page load outside of the main builder. All secondary pages now apply the full set of saved Display and Accessibility settings before first paint.
- Added a guided Settings tour — walks through opening Settings from the main menu, then covers the Display tab (themes and accent colours), Camera tab (sensitivity, FOV, default view), and the Accessibility tab in full (Reduced Motion, High Contrast, and Colour-blind Mode), before finishing on Keybindings. Launch it from Tours in the main menu.
- Added a written Settings guide to the Guides page, covering all four tabs: Display (themes and accent palettes), Camera (sensitivity, FOV, and default view snapshot), Accessibility (Reduced Motion, High Contrast, and Colour-blind Mode), and Keybindings.
- Added a Recent Materials panel to the sidebar — shows the last 8 materials you applied, in order, so you can jump straight back to a material without hunting through the full list. The panel updates in real time as you paint and persists across sessions. Click any swatch to make it the active material, exactly as you would from the main materials list.
- Added the Camera tab to Settings — separate sensitivity sliders for orbit, pan, and zoom, invert-X and invert-Y toggles, a field-of-view slider (30°–90°), and a Set current view as default option so Buildopia can open on your preferred angle and distance instead of the automatic default. All changes apply instantly, no reload needed.
- Added the Display tab to Settings — a full Dark / Light / System theme toggle, four curated accent palettes (Forest, Ocean, Sunset, Berry), and two colour pickers for a fully custom Primary/Secondary accent. Accent colours tint panels, highlights, and selection outlines throughout the app, and changes apply instantly without a reload.
- Added the Accessibility tab to Settings, with three options:
- Reduced Motion — disables UI animations, panel transitions, and smooth camera moves. Camera moves snap directly to their target instead of easing. Also respects your OS-level reduced motion preference automatically.
- High Contrast — strengthens panel borders, dividers, and secondary text to make UI elements easier to distinguish.
- Colour-blind Mode — applies a colour filter to the entire app, including the 3D canvas and material thumbnails. Choose from Protanopia (red-blind), Deuteranopia (green-blind), or Tritanopia (blue-blind), or leave it off. All settings apply instantly and are saved across sessions.
- The Controls & Keybindings dialog has been renamed Settings and reorganised into tabs: Keybindings (the existing keyboard and mouse rebinding options), Display, Camera, and Accessibility. The Keyboard Shortcuts guided tour and written guide have been updated to point to Settings → Keybindings.
- Added Controls & Keybindings — every keyboard shortcut in Buildopia can now be reassigned to a key of your choosing, and mouse button assignments for Pan Camera, Move Camera, and Draw Mode can be changed too. Open the new Controls & Keybindings dialog from the main menu. Changes save automatically to your browser and persist across sessions; a Reset to defaults button reverts everything in one click. The Keyboard Shortcuts guided tour and written guide have both been updated to mention this.
- Added a written guide and guided tour for My Builds — covering the Saved Builds tab (saving, loading, renaming, and deleting named saves), the Autosaves tab (browsing and loading from the last 30 automatic snapshots, and promoting one to a permanent save), the startup restore prompt, and the limits of browser-local storage.
- Updated the Autosave written guide and guided tour to reflect the new My Builds integration: the restore prompt now offers Load and Store instead of Restore and Discard, autosaves are surfaced in the My Builds Autosaves tab, and the guide links through to the new My Builds guide for the full details.
- Updated the Top Bar & Main Menu written guide and guided tour to document the new My Builds button in the top bar and the My Builds item in the main menu dropdown.
- Updated the Importing & Exporting written guide and guided tour to mention My Builds alongside Export as a complementary save option, with a note on when each is the right tool to reach for.
- Updated the Sidebar written guide and guided tour to document the new drag-to-reorder feature — hover any section heading to reveal its drag handle, then drag it to a new position. The layout is saved automatically and restored on every visit.
- You can now attach an image to a message on the Contact form or to any follow-up you send from the message status page — handy for sharing a screenshot alongside a bug report or question.
- The message status page now shows the full back-and-forth as a conversation thread, with every reply and follow-up (and any attached images) listed in order, instead of just the latest reply.
- My Builds now has two tabs — Saved Builds (your named saves, unchanged) and Autosaves, which shows the last 30 automatic snapshots of your work. Load any of them to jump back to an earlier state, or use Save to My Builds to promote one into a permanent named save. The startup prompt has also been updated: instead of Restore / Discard, it now offers Load (same as before) and Store, which keeps the autosave in the Autosaves tab rather than discarding it, and starts fresh.
- The Buy Me A Coffee link in the main menu now uses the official Buy Me A Coffee button.
- Made changes to the UI, specifically Viewport Tools, to reduce overlap on mobile devices.
- Added My Builds — a personal save slot system that lets you keep multiple named builds directly in your browser. Save your current build at any point, give it a name, and come back to it later. Each slot shows a thumbnail of the build so you can tell them apart at a glance. Load, rename, or delete saves any time from the new My Builds button in the top bar or the main menu. Saves stay on your device and are never uploaded anywhere.
- Added Seashell Fencing to the Fences category — a coral-pink branching post cradling a pearlescent white pearl, linked by an open, gently scalloped clam-shell/fan rail in pale icy lavender. Crafted from 1 Seashell + 1 Shiny Pearl (yield: 10). Marked with the sea-blue swatch border as a DLC 1 material.
- The sidebar panels can now be reordered by dragging — hover any section header to reveal a drag handle, then drag it to your preferred position. Your layout is saved automatically and restored on every visit.
- Updated the DLC 1 Materials guide to add a dedicated Fences section covering all five DLC 1 fence materials (Arched Fencing, Pointed Wooden Fencing, Ornate Partition, Netting, and Seashell Fencing), corrected the Colour Tinting list to include Sleek Steps and Twisty Pillar (Upper/Middle/Lower), and removed the work-in-progress notice now that all DLC 1 content is documented.
- Updated the DLC 1 Materials guided tour to add a Fences step covering all five fence materials, updated the Colour Tinting step to include Sleek Steps and Twisty Pillar, and replaced the work-in-progress closing notice with a standard completion step.
- Updated the Pillars & Iron Pipes guide and guided tour to include Stylish Brick Pillar (Upper/Middle/Lower) in the tiered pillar systems list — it was previously omitted in error.
- Fixed a duplicate Pathway Light section in the Borders guide — the material was documented twice; the two entries have been merged into one.
- Launched Written Guides — a new page of in-depth walkthroughs for every feature in Buildopia, expanding on the in-app guided tours. Browse by category or jump straight to a topic from the Main Menu.
- Added Ornate Partition to the Fences category — two angled panels meeting in a V at the centre of a 2×2 footprint, in a deep red/crimson finish with gold accents. Supports colour tinting. Marked with the sea-blue swatch border as a DLC 1 material.
- Added Netting to the Fences category — a light brown woven X lattice filling the full width and height of the block face at just 10% depth, with a diamond (45°-rotated square) frame woven through the centre. Crafted from 1 Vine Rope + 1 Twine (yield: 5). Marked with the sea-blue swatch border as a DLC 1 material.
- The Welcome to Buildopia popup will now show once more for all users, not just new visitors.
- Updated the icons for House Partition (Small), House Partition (Medium), Pointed Wooden Fencing, and Arched Fencing.
- Added Twisty Pillar to the Pillars category, in three tiered pieces — Twisty Pillar Upper, Twisty Pillar Middle, and Twisty Pillar Lower — sharing Round Pillar's profile with a twisted surface texture. Stack Lower at the bottom, Middle to fill height, and Upper at the top, the same as the other tiered pillar systems. Upper and Lower are each crafted from 2 Star-Spotted Rock + 1 Gold Ingot (yield: 10); Middle from 2 Star-Spotted Rock (yield: 10). Marked with the sea-blue swatch border as a DLC 1 material.
- Added Arched Fencing to the Fences category — a smooth segmental arch spanning a 2-wide footprint, with three interior pillars rising to meet the underside of the arch. Crafted from 2 Iron Ore (yield: 5). Supports colour tinting. Marked with the sea-blue swatch border as a DLC 1 material.
- Added Pointed Wooden Fencing to the Fences category — a square post with a short pointed cap and two straight rails, at 20% and 50% block height, connecting to neighbouring posts the same way Wooden Enclosure does. Crafted from 2 Lumber (yield: 10). Supports colour tinting. Marked with the sea-blue swatch border as a DLC 1 material.
- Added 2 new items to the Nature section: Small Coral, a wide ruffled mushroom-cap coral with a scalloped rim on a short stem; and Tall Coral, a cluster of tapered upward-branching fingers in a pink/violet palette.
- Updated the Pillars & Iron Pipes guided tour to include the new Twisty Pillar (Upper/Middle/Lower) among the tiered pillar systems.
- Updated the DLC 1 Materials guided tour's Pillars step to include Twisty Pillar (Upper/Middle/Lower).
- Updated the Liquid & Nature guided tour to cover the 2 new Nature items, Small Coral and Tall Coral.
- Added accurate swatch overlay icons for House Partition (Small), House Partition (Medium), Wooden Beam, Pointed Wooden Fencing, and Arched Fencing — each swatch now displays an accurate hand-traced outline of the piece's actual shape, replacing rougher placeholder geometry.
- Added Position controls (Front / Middle / Back) for eligible Door and Window materials — shifts the piece's depth within its cell so it can sit flush against a wall's outer or inner face instead of only centred. Middle is the default. Some window materials offer Top / Bottom instead, for pieces that sit flat rather than upright. Glass Window is excluded and stays centred.
- Added 3 new items to the Pillars category: Wooden Beam, Wooden Support, and Iron Support — Wooden Beam is a horizontal plank sitting at the base of the block, spanning its full width at 10% height and 20% depth, centred on the Z axis; Wooden Support is a slim vertical post (20% × 20%) anchored in the back-left corner of the block space and running full block height; Iron Support shares Wooden Support's geometry in an iron material. Wooden Beam and Wooden Support are each crafted from 2 Lumber (yield: 10); Iron Support from 2 Iron Ingot (yield: 10). All three support colour tinting.
- Added 2 new items to the Roofing category: Wavy Roof and Scale Roof — each supports the full set of Sloped, Hipped, Valley, Flat, and Decor variants. Crafted from 1 Stone + 1 Brick (yield: 10). Both support colour tinting.
- Added 2 new roof styles: Awning (Scale Roof only) — a quarter-circle canopy profile that bows outward over the space below; and Fancy (Wavy Roof only) — a 2-block-wide ramp with a scalloped valance and round medallion along the front eave. Both share their base material's recipe (1 Stone + 1 Brick, yield: 10).
- Updated the Grid Size guided tour to cover the new Y Axis Direction control, including the Up/Down options and the Maintain/Drop/Remove grass base-layer prompt.
- Updated the Importing & Exporting guided tour to cover the new Resource List and Material List buttons added on 11 August.
- Updated the Wireframe & Material guided tour to note that the wireframe overlay now applies to all block types, including plain cube blocks.
- Updated the Borders guided tour to include Pathway Light as a border material with Line, Single, and Corner sub-styles.
- Updated the Doors & Windows guided tour to correctly list Shutter, Wooden Gate, Swinging Doors, and Iron Gate as the materials that do not support the Combine option — Interior Door, Submarine Door, Ornate Door, and Ocean Door do support it and were previously listed in error.
- Updated the Doors & Windows guided tour to cover the new Position (Front / Middle / Back) controls for eligible door and window materials.
- Updated the Pillars & Iron Pipes guided tour to reflect the split of House Partition into three size variants (Small, Medium, and Big).
- Added a new DLC 1 Materials guided tour — covers the sea-blue swatch border, all five Block/Wall shape categories (Walls, Flooring, Prints, Terrain, Misc), and dedicated steps for each new shape-specific category: Misc Building, Windows, Doors, Steps, and Pathing. Marked as work in progress while remaining DLC 1 materials are still being added.
- Fixed roof texture orientation on Sloped, Hipped, and Valley roof shapes — directional textures like Wavy Roof and Scale Roof could render mirrored or upside-down on some faces, since opposite-facing faces along the same axis previously shared an identical UV mapping. Every face now reads correctly regardless of which way it points.
- Added Iron Frame to the Misc Building category
- Added 3 new items to the Windows category: Submarine Window, Hatch, and Ornate Window
- Added 4 new items to the Doors category: Interior Door, Submarine Door, Ornate Door, and Ocean Door
- Added Sleek Steps to the Steps category — a freestanding variant with 4 cantilevered treads on a diagonal central pillar. Crafted from 1 Lumber + 1 Iron Ore (yield: 5). Supports colour tinting.
- Added Pathway Light and Floating Log to the pathing materials — Pathway Light shares its Line/Single/Corner sub-styles with Wooden/Concrete/Brick Border; Floating Log is a freestanding piece for building walkways over water.
- Split House Partition into three size variants in the Pillars category: House Partition (Small) (1×2×1, costs 1 Twine), House Partition (Medium) (1×4×1, costs 2 Twine), and House Partition (Big) (2×4×1, the original piece — costs 5 Twine). All yield 1 per craft.
- Added accurate swatch overlay icons for all 7 of the above new materials, plus 4 existing ones that previously showed only a flat texture crop — Window Pane (Horizontal), Window Pane (Sloped), Glass Pane (Horizontal), and Glass Pane (Sloped) — each swatch now displays a traced outline of the piece's actual shape
- Updated the swatch overlay for Iron Frame to a hand-traced isometric cube outline, replacing the previous placeholder geometry
- Added Iron Frame to the colour-tint whitelist — double-click or double-tap its swatch to recolour it
- All 10 newly added items (Submarine Window, Hatch, Ornate Window, Interior Door, Submarine Door, Ornate Door, Ocean Door, Sleek Steps, Pathway Light, and Floating Log) display the same sea-blue swatch border as DLC 1 materials
- Fixed the Material List and block-counter popup collapsing Wooden Border, Concrete Border, Brick Border, and Pathway Light into a single entry regardless of sub-style — each of the 3 Line/Single/Corner variants now lists separately (e.g. Wooden Border — Line, Wooden Border — Single, Wooden Border — Corner), matching how the Resource List already split them out by crafting yield.
- Fixed Floating Logs not reserving a 2-wide footprint on placement — it now behaves identically to Iron Scaffold Plank, blocking the adjacent cell and preventing overlapping placements.
- Fixed the wireframe overlay not appearing on plain cube blocks — cubes rendered via the instanced mesh pool are now included, with shared seam edges deduplicated the same way as all other block types.
- Added 5 new items to the Windows category: Window Pane (Horizontal), Window Pane (Sloped), Glass Pane, Glass Pane (Horizontal), and Glass Pane (Sloped) — Glass Pane is a frameless full-block glass variant, with Horizontal/Sloped counterparts for both Window Pane and Glass Pane covering the same layouts as the base piece. All 3 Glass Pane variants have also been added to the colour-tint whitelist.
- Renamed Wooden Window to Glass Window, and reordered the Windows material section to: Hatch Window, Underground Hatch, Glass Window, Window Pane, Window Pane (Horizontal), Window Pane (Sloped), Glass Pane, Glass Pane (Horizontal), Glass Pane (Sloped), Stained Glass Window, Sash Window.
- Added a WebGL support check that runs before the main app loads — if WebGL isn't available, Buildopia now shows a clear explanatory message instead of failing silently partway through startup.
- Added Resource List and Material List buttons to the Save / Load section — Resource List tallies the total base crafting resources needed for every block in your current build; Material List shows a count of each material used. Both can be saved as a .txt file or copied to the clipboard.
- Added Y Axis Direction to the Grid Size section — choose Up (default, existing behaviour) to grow the grid upward when increasing Height, or Down to grow it downward, shifting your existing build up so new space appears below it. When growing downward, a prompt lets you choose what to do with the existing grass base layer: Maintain keeps it where it is (shifting up with the rest of the build), Drop removes it before moving and fills the new base layer with fresh grass, or Remove strips it and leaves the new base empty.
- Fixed items that have no crafting recipe of their own — but appear as a yield in another recipe — showing their internal ID instead of their display name in the Resource List.
- Updated the Grid Size and Importing & Exporting guided tours to cover the new features added in this update.
- 30 new materials from the first Pokopia DLC pack are now available in the Block / Wall shape. Materials from DLC 1 are marked with a sea-blue border on their swatches so they're easy to spot in the grid.
- Walls — 10 new materials added to the end of the Walls category: Lacquered Wall, Ornate Wall, Digital Wall, Metal Wall, Stone-Accent Wall, Stately Wall (Upper/Lower), Stately Wall (Middle), Two-Tone Wall, Gradient Wall (Upper), and Gradient Wall (Lower)

- Terrain — 6 new materials added after Cracked Sandstone: Seafloor Algae, Blue Rock, Blue Cave Rock, Carved Blue Rock, Mossy Ocean Soil, and Star-Spotted Rock
- Misc — 1 new material added after Scrap Cube: Buoyant Block
- Colour tinting — 17 materials added to the colour-tint whitelist (double-click/double-tap a swatch to recolour): Lacquered Wall, Ornate Wall, Digital Wall, Metal Wall, Buoyant Block, Stone-Accent Wall, Stately Wall (Upper/Lower), Stately Wall (Middle), Two-Tone Wall, Gradient Wall (Upper), Gradient Wall (Lower), Stately Flooring, Rectangle Tiling, Glossy Tiling, Vibrant Glossy Tiling, Handrail, and Colorful Fish Scale Tiling
- Added a Contact page — send a message without needing an account or email address; you receive a private reply token to check back for a response. Also includes a link to the Discord server and an email address for press/partnership enquiries
- Added an Announcements banner panel to the main screen, displaying the latest site announcements at a glance
- Added a Past Announcements log page — a full running history of every published announcement, most recent first
- Added precision step buttons (+ / −) to the Layer Reveal and Grid Size sliders for fine-grained single-step adjustments
- Added a new Iron Pipes subcategory to the Pillar / Post shape, with 11 pipe segment variants: Iron Pipe (Horizontal), Iron Pipe (Vertical), Iron Pipe (Upward Curve), Iron Pipe (Downward Curve), Iron Pipe (Horizontal Curve), Iron Pipe (Upward T), Iron Pipe (Downward T), Iron Pipe (Vertical T), Iron Pipe (Horizontal T), Iron Pipe (Vertical Cross), and Iron Pipe (Horizontal Cross) — each a pre-modelled iron pipe mesh in a muted steel tone, designed to be combined into continuous pipe runs, drainage systems, and industrial detailing
- Added a new guided tour: Pillars & Iron Pipes — a 13-step walkthrough of every Pillar / Post material, Iron Pillar's automatic seamless stacking behaviour, the tiered Upper/Middle/Lower pillar systems, and a full guide to planning and building with all 11 Iron Pipe segments
- Significant rendering performance improvements — the viewport now uses InstancedMesh to batch draw calls and face culling to skip hidden geometry, substantially reducing GPU overhead on larger builds
- Added Placement Point Of Origin, under Placement Size:
- Axis Point (default) — places from the target cell outward in the +X/+Y/+Z direction only, the same as before
- Centered — spreads the box outward from the point of contact in both directions along X and Z, while Height (Y) still only builds upward
- Added 6 new guided tours:
- Viewport Camera — orbiting, panning, draw mode, zoom, the axis/gizmo controls, and using the additional viewport
- Wireframe & Material — toggling wireframe mode and the material preview
- Doors & Windows — placing doors and windows, combining touching pieces, and material options
- Borders — the Line, Single, and Corner sub-styles for Border pathing materials
- Furniture — placing storage, tables, beds, sofas, and mirrors
- Autosave — how autosave works, restoring a backup, and exporting/importing manually
- Other bug fixes and improvements
- Added 2 new guided tours:
- Roof Styles & Liquid — a walkthrough of the available roofing shapes and how to place and work with liquid tiles
- Nature — a tour of the nature-themed shapes and how to use them in your builds
- The header bars in the Community Builds and Tours windows now stay fixed at the top while scrolling through content, keeping navigation controls always accessible
- Added a new Shape category: Furniture, with two items — Storage (1x1), a compact single-block dresser with four corner legs and two stacked drawers on the front face; and Storage (2x1), a wider two-block variant with four drawers across the front. Both are rendered in light brown
- Added 5 more items to Furniture: Table (1x1), a single-block table; Table (2x1) and Bed (1x2), two-block-wide pieces that each reserve a 2-wide × 1-deep footprint; and Table (2x2) and Bed (2x2), which reserve a full 2×2 floor footprint. All five are rendered in the same light brown wood tone as the rest of the category
- Added 2 more items to Furniture: Wall Mirror, a single-block mirror that sits flush against the back of the cell, the same way a Ladder does; and Tall Mirror, a freestanding full-length mirror on two side feet that reserves a 1-wide × 2-tall footprint. Both are rendered in the same light brown wood tone as the rest of the category
- Added 15 guided tours covering all major features of Buildopia — open them via the Tours option in the main menu (☰). The following tours are available:
- Builder Basics — an introduction to tools, shapes, materials, camera controls, placing blocks, and undo
- Top Bar & Main Menu — the top bar buttons, undo/redo, camera, screenshot, the main menu, Community Builds, and Discord
- Viewport Tools — layer controls, zoom, the axis gizmo, wireframe mode, draw mode, and how blocks and materials interact in the viewport
- The Sidebar — resizing, minimising, collapsing, scrolling categories, and mobile behaviour
- Paint & Recolour — painting individual blocks, recolouring an entire build, tinting, and retheme workflows
- The Cursor Tool — selecting, moving, rotating, copying, and pasting blocks
- Mirror Symmetry — enabling Mirror X and Mirror Z to build symmetrical structures
- Placement Size — adjusting width, height, and length of placed blocks and locking the aspect ratio
- Templates — using 2D and 3D templates, fill styles, orientation, custom templates, and image-based templates
- Layer Reveal — revealing layers one at a time to inspect a build like a blueprint
- Grid Size — resizing the grid width, height, and length
- Importing & Exporting — saving and loading builds, exporting screenshots and PNG files

- Community Builds — browsing shared builds, liking, loading, and sharing your own
- Keyboard Shortcuts — a reference tour covering all available keyboard shortcuts including undo, redo, rotate, and mirror
- Fixed the four Outdoor rocks (Heat Rock, Icy Rock, Smooth Rock, Damp Rock) floating above the ground — they now sit flush on the cell floor
- Fixed several issues with viewport state not resuming correctly — the camera position, zoom level, and active layer are now reliably restored when reopening or reloading a build
- Fixed the Community Builds window being obscured by the top menu bar — it now opens clear of the bar and can no longer be dragged or repositioned behind it
- Other bug fixes and optimisations
- Added Cascade to the Liquid section — when toggled on, a newly placed liquid block flows downward and spreads horizontally across flat ground instead of staying a single block; erasing the source block drains everything it spread into
- Added a Hide Liquid button to the Liquid section — hides all liquid currently in the build without removing it; toggle again to bring it back
- Added an Erase Liquid button (red-bordered) to the Liquid section — removes every liquid block from the map in one tap
- Added a Flood button to the Liquid section — drops a source block of the currently selected liquid type/level onto every cell of the grid's topmost layer and cascades each one down and outward, regardless of whether Cascade is toggled on
- Added two new Shape categories: Outdoor, with 4 decorative rocks (Heat Rock, Icy Rock, Smooth Rock, Damp Rock); and Utilities, with Mini Floodgate (a fixed fixture that reserves a 1-wide × 2-tall footprint the same way a 1×2 Door does) and Laser Sensor (a floor-mounted sensor that projects a red laser beam 2 blocks forward)
- Added a Community Builds panel — browse builds shared by other players, or share your own. Open it via the menu (☰) in the top bar. The Browse tab lists shared builds sorted by Newest or Most Liked, with thumbnail previews, author names, and a ♥ like button; click a card to load that build (a confirmation dialog prevents accidentally overwriting work in progress). The Share tab lets you give your current build a title and optional author name before submitting it to the gallery
- Added a block preview gizmo (bottom-left, above the axis gizmo) — a small 3D preview showing the currently selected shape and material as it will actually appear when placed, rotating with the camera and updating instantly on any shape, material, rotation, or tint change
- Fixed the block preview gizmo showing the wrong geometry for Wooden Ladder and Iron Ladder — they were previewing as plain stairs instead of the correct ladder shape
- Fixed the block preview gizmo showing only the bottom-half mesh for Sash Window — it now previews the full sash-window fixture
- Fixed the block preview gizmo rendering shapes at an inconsistent size: blocks, stairs, roofing, liquids, and several other shapes clipped over the edges of the gizmo frame on first select, then snapped to a smaller correct size after the first camera rotation. The gizmo now computes the correct framing immediately on selection, matching the post-rotation size at all times
- Fixed the hover wireframe (the outline shown over a cell when hovering before placing) not matching the selected shape — it now reflects the correct geometry for the current shape and material
- Added 13 materials to Fences: Wooden Fencing, Metal Fencing, Stone Fencing, Boat Railing, Wooden Handrail, Handrail, Harbor Pole, Arched Barrier, Wooden Siding Panel, Wooden Siding Corner, Wooden Posts, Wooden Partition, and Grate Fencing. Wooden Fencing/Metal Fencing/Stone Fencing/Boat Railing/Wooden Handrail/Handrail/Harbor Pole each join to an adjacent post of the same type — or a plain Block-shape material (any material except Carved Rock) — placed directly beside it along the X or Z axis, with a short connecting rail bridging the gap (removing either side removes the rail too); Arched Barrier is a fixed, free-standing hurdle that ignores neighbours; Wooden Siding Panel/Corner are flush wall-mounted siding; Wooden Posts is a fixed cluster of 3 posts; Wooden Partition and Grate Fencing are fixed fixtures that reserve a footprint the same way a Door does (1-wide × 2-tall, and 2-wide × 2-tall, respectively)
- Wooden Enclosure and Iron Enclosure now join to an adjacent post of the same type — or a plain Block-shape material (any material except Carved Rock) — placed directly beside it along the X or Z axis, with a short connecting rail bridging the gap. Removing either side removes the rail too
- Added a new material to Prints: Dynamic Purple Print (flat #BF97EF)
- Added 5 materials to Terrain, right after Volcanic Rock: Carved White Rock, Carved Coarse Rock, Carved Light Brown Rock, Carved Red Rock, and Carved Yellow Rock — each a hand-modeled 2x2x2 rock mass with one corner carved away in a smooth curve, useful for cave mouths and tunnel corners
- Added Wooden Partition and Wooden Posts to the colour-tint whitelist
- Doors: removed the Door size 1×2/2×1/2×2/2×3/3×3 filter buttons — every Door material now shows together in one Doors category, and its footprint size is fixed to that material (e.g. Rustic Door is always 1×2, Iron Door always 2×3) rather than a separate size picked beforehand. Combine is unchanged
- Fixed tinted materials rendering without any directional/ambient shading — they were drawn with a flat, unlit material to stop the tint colour shifting under light, which also flattened their shading; they're now lit again while keeping the tint colour stable
- Fixed Sideways Log and Upright Log not changing colour when tinted
- Added 8 materials to Terrain: Copper Deposit (Wasteland), Copper Deposit (Beach), Copper Deposit (Ridge), Copper Deposit (Skyland), Iron Deposit, Gold Deposit, Metal Deposit, and Limestone
- Added a new material to Terrain: Glowing Stone
- Reordered part of the Terrain list so it now reads: Volcanic Rock, Copper Deposit (Wasteland/Beach/Ridge/Skyland), Iron Deposit, Gold Deposit, Metal Deposit, Mossy Soil, Gravel, Limestone, Glowing Stone, Mysterious Stone
- Fixed a bug caused material swatches to not appear square on some devices
- Added 12 Prints materials to the colour-tint whitelist: Polka Dot, Vertical Stripe, Horizontal Stripe, Gingham, Swirl, Winter, Flower, Star, Curry, Berry, Ball, and Stylish Ball Print
- Tours & Guides updated — documentation updated to reflect recent changes: History modal now documented as interactive (click-to-jump, confirmation row for multi-step jumps, step-count hover badges); Presentation Mode guide and tour updated with GIF recording opt-in (up to 6 s at 12 fps, Save GIF / Discard on exit); Settings guide and tour updated to reflect seven tabs — new Builder tab (Basic / Advanced tool preset) and Membership tab (key entry, status, five perks: Custom Accent Colours, Settings Export/Import, Community Flair, gold logo, Username field); Layer Reveal guide and tour updated with X and Z Reveal sliders (Reveal width / Reveal length), including tool-locking behaviour and save persistence; Mirror Symmetry guide and tour updated with mirror plane visuals (blue plane for Mirror X, orange for Mirror Z); My Builds guide and tour updated with Save to My Builds & Clear shortcut in the Clear confirmation dialog; Community Builds guide and tour updated with Build of the Week (pinned gold-bordered 🏆 card), Community Build Tags (nine categories, filter strip, search integration), and Member Flair (gold ★ badge, Username pre-fill); Importing & Exporting guide updated to note X/Z Reveal state saves in the exported
.json; Terrain Generator tour updated to call out the caldera bowl carved at the Volcano summit
- Layer Sheet export: renders at 2x internal resolution for noticeably crisper text and grid lines, and all text is now 1.5x larger and easier to read
- Layer Sheet materials list: each material now sits in its own grid-outlined box, and is numbered (1), (2), etc. by its position in the list — that same number (without brackets) is now stamped on every block of that material across the layer grids, so you can match a block back to its row in the list at a glance
- Added a new Block material subcategory, Prints — no materials in it yet, just the tab
- Reordered the Block material subcategory tabs: Walls, Flooring, Misc, Prints, Terrain (previously Walls, Flooring, Terrain, Misc)
- Finished the 3 Border Pathing materials (Wooden Border, Concrete Border, Brick Border), added 25 July: each now builds one of 3 real kerb/edging pieces — Line (full block width, 50% block depth, flush against the back edge), Single (a quarter-square in the back-left corner), or Corner (Line plus a second quarter-square at the front-left, together covering 3/4 of the footprint and leaving the front-right quarter open) — picked via the Border row's Line/Single/Corner buttons, replacing the old placeholder Wooden Path-style deck. Brick Border uses a real photo texture and isn't colour-tintable; Wooden Border (#EAA04A) and Concrete Border (#B9BCC1) are flat colours and both colour-tintable
- Added 19 materials to the Prints subcategory (added earlier today, empty until now): Polka Dot, Bubble, Vertical Stripe, Horizontal Stripe, Gingham, Tartan, Argyle, Houndstooth, Vine, Swirl, Winter, Zig-Zag, Leaf, Flower, Star, Curry, Berry, Ball, and Stylish Ball Print — all real photo textures, listed in that order in the swatch grid
- Added 23 new Terrain materials: Cracked Sandstone, Sandstone, Skyland Sandstone, Cliff Rock, Spotted Cliff Rock, Red Cliff Rock, Red Spotted Cliff Rock, Black Cliff Rock, Black Spotted Cliff Rock, Skyland Cliff Rock, Skyland Spotted Cliff Rock, White Rock, Coarse Rock, Light Brown Rock, Red Rock, Yellow Rock, Black Rock, Lava Rock, Cave Rock, Ocean Rock, Reddish-Brown Cave Rock, and Volcanic Rock — all photo-textured; Cracked Sandstone slots in after Ice, the rest after Volcanic Ash
- Added three new Pillar materials: Simple Pillar Quarter (a quarter-cylinder panel with cloth texture on all faces, tintable), House Partition (a 2-wide 4-tall flat cloth-textured panel, tintable), and Water Pillar Quarter (a quarter-cylinder panel with a dedicated layered water texture — red top cap, grey bottom cap, not tintable)
- Added two new Nature items: Vines, which mounts flush against the edge of its cell like a Ladder rather than floating in the middle, built from a low-poly climbing stem with procedurally coloured leaf clusters; and Boulder, a low-poly rock with procedurally varied stone colouring that occupies a full 2×2×2 footprint. Vines slots in after Grass, Boulder after Vines
- Sideways Log and Upright Log now show real bark texture on their curved sides (log-sides) and the Puffy Tree Pillar texture on their circular end caps, instead of a flat procedural colour
- Added a new Pathing shape (its own button in the shape grid, just before Pillar / Post), with seven materials: Wooden Path, Stepping Stones, Walkway, Bridge Planks, Grate Flooring, and Concrete Slab lie flat as ground cover; Arch Bridge instead places a fixed-appearance arched span reserving a 2-wide, 2-tall, 1-deep footprint the same way a 2×2 Door does
- Added a new Pillar material: Roof Support, a light brown (same tone as Bridge Planks) diagonal knee-brace beam — a quadrilateral side profile extruded to 37.5% of a full block's width and centred; tintable
- Added a new Pathing material: Iron Scaffold Plank, the same two-plank deck as Bridge Planks but stretched across a 2-wide, 1-deep footprint (both cells occupied/reserved, same as Curved Eave); grey, same tone as Grate Flooring
- Added a new Pathing material: Iron Scaffold, Iron Scaffold Plank's deck shortened ~15% with 4 full-height corner posts and small connector blocks bridging the shortened gaps at each end; same 2-wide, 1-deep footprint and grey tone as Iron Scaffold Plank
Improved
- Resize (Grid Size section) now grows and shrinks Width (X) and Length (Z) from the centre, evenly on both sides, so an existing build stays centred instead of shifting toward one corner; Height (Y) is unchanged and still only extends upward from the existing floor
- Added a search bar to the Material section of the sidebar, above the group tabs (Wall, Flooring, etc.) — typing a query searches across every material group available for the currently selected shape, overriding the active group tab until the search is cleared, with an X button to quickly clear it
- Added a new Misc material: Iron Plating, slotted in alongside Hay Pile and Cube Light
- Added two new Window materials: Hatch Window and Underground Hatch — solid light-brown wood panels with no glass; Underground Hatch lies flush against the block underneath instead of standing centred in the cell
- Added six new Pillar materials: Extravagant Pillar and Round Pillar, each split into Upper/Middle/Lower like the existing Wooden and Stone Pillars — Middle is a marble cylindrical shaft; Upper/Lower are a shaft-width marble cylinder joined to a tapered marble box/cylinder that flares out to full block width at the piece's outer end; Round Pillar Middle replaces the old standalone Marble Pillar material
- Pillar, Log, and Iron Beam/Column/Pillar swatches now show a hand-traced outline icon of the actual mesh shape on top of the material texture, so the silhouette reads at a glance instead of just a flat texture crop
- Extended that same outline-icon treatment to Misc Building, Window, and Door swatches, including finer inner detail (glass panes, mullions, lattice work) on top of the base silhouette where relevant
- Added four new Door materials, each with its own new door-size button: Shutter (3×3, handle at the floor instead of the side), Wooden Gate (2×1), Swinging Doors (2×1), and Iron Gate (2×1) — the three 2×1 doors render as two inward-handled leaves instead of one slab; none of the four support the Combine option
- Added a new Misc Building shape (its own button in the shape grid, just before Liquid), with four materials: Glossy Awning (a two-sided sloped white panel with a valance), Corrugated Metal (a wavy navy-blue slab covering the full block), Curved Eave (a pale-green quarter-cylinder cap spanning 2 blocks wide, reserving both cells the same way a 2×1 Door does), and Protruding Wall (a lavender block whose top half juts out 10% further on the front face only) — all four are colour-tintable
Fix
- Fixed Rotate having no effect on the Helix template — Helix's spiral winding is now rotated 90° per press/tap, matching every other template
Improved
- Colour tints now replace a material's colour entirely rather than overlaying it — the tint hue is baked directly into the texture using luminance from the original, so white stays white and yellow stays yellow regardless of the base material's colour
- Extended the outline-icon treatment to Steps and Ladder swatches as well
Fix
- Fixed an issue where a dropped or briefly-unavailable request for the app's core script could leave the page stuck on a blank build with no grid and unresponsive tools until a manual refresh — this now automatically retries a couple of times before giving up, same as the earlier fix for the 3D engine load
46 new block materials, alongside a reorganized Materials list and updated tint allocations:
- Added 46 new materials, including Ball Wall, Antique Wall and Light Antique Wall (Upper/Middle/Lower), Wooden Pillar (Upper/Middle/Lower), Stylish Brick Wall, Stone Pillar, Pop Art Wall, Confectionary Wall, and Centre Wall (each Upper/Middle/Lower) plus Centre Trim, Triangle Design Flooring, Iron Tiling, Neon Flooring, Fish Scale Tiling, Iron Plating, and Foundation
- Reorganized the Materials list to slot all newly added materials in alongside their related existing materials
- Expanded the colour-tint whitelist to cover the new materials above, and fixed Stylish Wall Upper/Lower so they now correctly pick up tints (previously mistyped internally so tinting silently failed on those two)
- The 3D viewport now only re-renders when something actually changes (camera movement, block edits, toggles) instead of continuously redrawing every frame, reducing GPU load and battery/heat impact while idle
33 new materials across Walls, Flooring, Terrain, and Misc:
- Added new Wall materials: Striped Wall, Bronze Wall, Stylish Bronze Wall, Iron Wall, Stylish Iron Wall, Gold Wall, Stylish Gold Wall, Crystal Wall, Ball Wall, and Warning Wall
- Added new Flooring materials: Crisscross Wooden Flooring, Woven Carpeting, Fluffy Flooring, Soft Carpeting, Extravagant Carpeting, Tatami Mat, Felt Mat, Puffy Tree Pillar, Grass Flooring, Lined Stone Flooring, Aged Stone Flooring, Simple Square Tiling, Stylish Tiling, Hexagonal Flooring, Arched Tiling, Stone Tiling, Square Tiling, Mosaic Tiling, Brick Flooring, Stylish Stone Flooring, and Marked Road
- Added a new Terrain material: Volcanic Ash
- Added a new Misc material: Hay Pile
- Renamed the Flooring material "Carpet" to "Modern Carpeting" to sit alongside the other new carpet and mat variants
- Reordered every Wall, Flooring, Terrain, and Misc swatch in the Material sidebar to match a single consistent catalog ordering, with each new material slotted in alongside its related existing materials
- Colour tinting is now limited to a specific set of Wall, Flooring, and Misc materials whose look suits a colour wash — Terrain, Roofing, Pillars, Steps, Ladders, Windows, Doors, and several photo-textured or pattern-driven Wall/Flooring materials are no longer tintable
- Added Stylish Steps, Concrete Steps, Brick Steps, Wooden Ladder, Iron Ladder, Rustic Door, Simple Door, Modern Door, Brainy Door, Iron Door, Large Wooden Door, Sash Window, Skylight, Wooden Pillar, Iron Pillar, and Marble Pillar to the tintable list
- Layer Sheet PNG exports now render the Materials Used list as its own tile at the end of the grid (spilling into extra tiles if the list is long) instead of a thin strip underneath, with much larger swatches and text so it can be read without zooming in
- Picking an image for the Custom template now opens a crop dialog first — drag to reposition and use a zoom slider to choose which square region of the image is used, instead of an automatic (and sometimes badly-framed) center-crop; nothing is applied until you press Done, and Cancel discards the image and leaves any previous template untouched
- Selecting the Custom template now automatically locks Placement Size (equalizing X/Y/Z to the current highest, same as 3D templates) and sets the fill style to Filled — other templates are unaffected and keep whatever Placement Size lock and fill style you last had set
- Custom template's Sensitivity slider now goes down to 0 (previously 1), so almost anything in the source image can be counted as "filled" when needed
Fix
- Fixed an intermittent issue where a dropped or slow connection while loading the 3D engine could leave the app stuck on a blank build with no autosave prompt and unresponsive tools — the app now automatically retries once before giving up, instead of relying on a manual refresh
- Fixed redeployed updates to the app sometimes not reaching browsers that had already cached the previous version, leaving them stuck on stale code until a hard refresh — each release now loads as a distinct, versioned file so browsers fetch it fresh automatically
Added a Nature shape for scattering trees, shrubs, flowers, and grass around a build, plus 8 new Templates:
- New Nature shape, alongside Block, Roof, Pillar, Steps, Ladder, Window, Door, and Liquid
- Six nature items to choose from: Berry Tree, Pointy Tree, Palm Tree, Shrub, Flowers, and Grass
- Berry Tree, Pointy Tree, and Palm Tree each occupy a 3×3 footprint and stand 4 layers tall, with a trunk and canopy rendered as low-poly shapes; Shrub, Flowers, and Grass sit within a single cell
- Nature items place, erase, undo/redo, and save/load the same as any other shape
- Added four new 2D templates — Diamond, Pentagon, Star, and Moon — alongside Square, Circle, Heart, and Triangle
- Added four new 3D templates — Cone, Dome, Torus, and Helix — alongside Cube, Sphere, Cylinder, and Pyramid
- Added a Custom template — import your own PNG/JPEG and stamp its silhouette across the Place Size, with a Sensitivity slider and Invert option to fine-tune which parts of the image count as "filled", plus an optional Pixel-art colour match mode that tints each stamped block to the closest match of the source pixel's colour from the selected material's tint palette
- Added a new Misc material category for Blocks, starting with Cube Light
- Added new Wall materials: Rough Wall, Concrete Wall, Patterned Aged Stone Wall, Aged Stone Wall, Broken Tiling Wall, Guest Room Wall, and Painted Wall
- Added new Flooring materials: Cyber Flooring and Asphalt
- Added new Terrain materials: Sand, Mysterious Stone, Moss, Gravel, and Ice
Improved
- Sidebar categories (Tool, Shape, Templates, Material, and so on) can now be minimised individually — click/tap a category's header bar to collapse or expand just that category. Collapsed state is remembered per category between visits.
- Placement Size's maximum per axis raised to 75, matching Grid Size — with a one-time-per-session warning if any axis is pushed above 40, since placing that many blocks at once can slow down or crash the app on some devices
- Colour tint picker is now opened with a right-click or long-press on a material swatch, replacing the old double-click/double-tap
- Recalibrated several tint colours so they're easier to tell apart and colour-match against, most notably separating Rose and Pink
Bigger grids, labelled Grid Size sliders, a Seamless Hollow template option, a None option for template Orientation, and axis numbers on the Layer Sheet PNG:
- Grid Size's maximum per axis raised from 50 to 75
- Added a slider alongside each Grid Size number field, and a label naming each axis
- Reordered the Grid Size fields alphabetically: Height, Length, Width
- Each Grid Size label now shows its matching axis letter in brackets — Height (Y), Length (Z), Width (X)
- Added a third template fill style, Seamless Hollow — a 2-block-thick outline/shell (vs. Hollow's 1-block), which closes the diagonal gaps that curved or pointed templates (Circle, Heart, Sphere, Pyramid, etc.) can leave when their shell only touches itself corner-to-corner
- Added a None button to Templates' Orientation row, alongside Width (X)/Height (Y)/Length (Z) — replaces the old separate "None (use Shape)" button, and turns off the active template the same way
- Orientation now also applies to 3D templates (Cube, Sphere, Cylinder, Pyramid), setting which axis the shape treats as primary — e.g. which way a Cylinder's axis or a Pyramid's apex points
- Layer Sheet PNG exports now number each grid along the bottom (X axis) and left side (Z axis) of every layer tile
Improved
- Templates now default to Hollow instead of Filled when a template is first selected
- Selecting a template now automatically sets Orientation to Height (Y)
- Selecting a Shape now automatically deselects any active template
The Current Layer number can now be typed in directly:
- In Manual layer mode, the Current Layer number is now an editable text box instead of a static readout — type a layer number directly instead of stepping to it
- The Current Layer text box is locked while in Auto mode, since the layer is calculated automatically
Placement Size lock, and two new 3D templates:
- Added a padlock button under Placement Size — lock it to chain X, Y and Z together (equalizing all three to whichever is currently highest, then keeping them matched as you adjust any one of them)
- The padlock now locks automatically when a 3D template is selected and unlocks automatically when one is deselected, replacing the old always-on chaining for Sphere/Pyramid — unlock it by hand while a 3D template is active to stretch that template non-uniformly
- Added Cube and Cylinder 3D templates, alongside Sphere and Pyramid — Templates now offers 8 templates in total: Square, Circle, Heart, and Triangle (2D), plus Cube, Sphere, Cylinder, and Pyramid (3D)
- Reordered the 3D template row to Cube, Sphere, Cylinder, Pyramid
Fix
- Fixed tinted materials visually reverting to Wooden Wall when a build was loaded, either through manual JSON import or autosave restore
- Fixed the Paint tool aborting an entire paint area if it contained a shape the selected material couldn't be applied to — it now paints every matching shape in the area and ignores the rest, instead of cancelling the whole action
- Fixed hidden layers in the Layers & Blueprint Reveal panel still blocking placement, painting, erasing, and other tool interactions in the empty space they occupy — hidden layers are now fully off-limits to every tool until revealed again, rather than being treated as if the hidden shapes were still there
Installable app support, Discord community link, and more:
- Buildopia can now be added to your Home Screen on iOS/Android and launches full-screen like a native app
- Added app icon, manifest, and offline caching via a service worker
- Website icon embed added
- Discord community link added to the top bar, with a confirmation dialog before leaving the app
- Added additional keyboard shortcuts
- Added a Pan mode to the camera/draw mode toggle — drag to move the camera without rotating it
Fix
- Fixed the toolbar and layer panel overlapping the status bar in standalone mode
- Fixed an issue where the site would not load correctly when saved/installed as a Web App
- Fixed hidden SEO text becoming visible on some devices when rotating to landscape
- Fixed a major bug affecting image exporting
- Fixed a blank white bar appearing over the 3D viewport on first load, which previously only cleared once the sidebar was toggled
- Fixed the bottom safe-area padding on installed devices taking up far more space than needed, cropping the sidebar's content
- Fixed the second viewport spawning behind the top bar — it now always opens bottom-centred in the main viewport
Improved
- Reworked how block materials are loaded — textures are now referenced as separate image files instead of being embedded directly in the page, reducing page size and improving load times
- Reworked the camera/draw mode toggle: the camera icon now shows a rotate glyph, and the second-viewport shortcut in that row has been replaced with the new Pan mode button (the main "2nd View" button in the top bar still opens the second viewport)
Cursor tool, symmetry building, and a batch of quality-of-life improvements:
- Addition of the new Cursor tool
- Relocation of shape-specific tools to the top of the toolbar
- Addition of X and Z axis Mirroring toggles
- Addition of new 3D templates

- Autosave & optional load added — works through local storage handling, nothing uploaded server-side
- Added wireframe viewing and material-hiding buttons
- Added button to hide all viewport tools for a cleaner editing environment
- Updated help documentation with new features
Fix
- Fixed an issue where non-native materials could be painted onto other shapes
Improved
- Optimised material handling, plus a lot of back-end changes and optimisations
